founders' mission

Ambitious missions always begin with a simple idea.

For Team PLUSH, it began with three high school students who believed that STEM could be more than just innovation, but rather a secondary home where young engineers feel welcomed, supported, and inspired one day at a time. Team PLUSH will ALWAYS operate on a student-led basis, with our oldest mentor being 18 years of age.

season plans

  1. 1
    September–December · Offseason

    Offseason & Preseason

Before the game drops, we recruit new members, train on tools, CAD, and code, run fundraising and outreach, and prototype ideas so the team is ready to move on day one.

  2. 2
    January · Kickoff

    Kickoff & Strategy

The season opens with FIRST's global game reveal. We read the manual together, break down the field, and decide what kind of robot a rookie PLUSH team can build well.

  3. 3
    Weeks 1–2 · Design

    Design & Prototype

CAD in Onshape, cardboard-and-wood prototypes, and fast tests. We lock in a design that is simple enough to finish and sturdy enough to compete.

  4. 4
    Weeks 3–6 · Build

    Build & Program

Fabrication, wiring, and code come together on one robot. Drive practice starts the minute it can move, and every subsystem gets tested until it breaks.

  5. 5
    March · Districts

    District Competitions

Our first competitions: qualification matches, pit repairs between rounds, scouting alliance partners, and earning the ranking points that decide who advances.

  6. 6
    April · Provincials (if qualified)

    Ontario Provincial Championship

The top district teams meet for the provincial title in front of a crowd of thousands, with a shot at qualifying for the FIRST Championship.

the rookie all-star plan

The Rookie All-Star Award is the biggest award a first-year FRC team can win. It goes to the rookie team that's already running like an established one, and the winner moves on to the FIRST Championship. Outside of the robot itself, this is our main goal for the season. Here's the plan.

what judges look for, and what we're doing about it

🤝
Sponsor & Mentor Partnerships
support network
We're going for 20 sponsors across six tiers, with industry mentors working directly with each sub-team. Partners can host a private robot demo at their office.
📣
Community Outreach
spreading FIRST
At least 6 STEM workshops at local elementary and middle schools, plus 2 or more public robot demos with partners. Most of this happens before our first competition.
♿
Makers Making Change
real-world impact
20 or more assistive-technology builds for people with disabilities. Each one gets logged and shared back to the Makers Making Change network.
🌍
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
access & culture
We want a roster that actually looks like Ottawa, so we recruit underrepresented students into STEM and keep track of how representation changes each year.
♻️
Sustainability Plan
long-term plan
A written plan for recruiting, funding, and mentoring so the team keeps going after the founders graduate. We're aiming for 45 students by 2027.
🏆
Robot & FIRST Values
on the field
A working competition robot built in under three months, and a team that treats other teams well in the pits.

home values

what we value

Every season we build a robot, but the most important machine we build is the way we work together. These values keep our team moving forward on and off the field.

team notebook
G
Gracious Professionalism
We compete hard and help harder, treating every team, mentor, and volunteer with respect — on the field and off.
C
Curious
We ask why as often as how. From software to strategy, every question is an invitation to learn something new.
O
Optimistic
We believe problems are solvable and setbacks are temporary. A rough build day is just the start of a good comeback story.
H
Hard-Working
We show up, put in the hours, and finish what we start — 40+ hours in the build space when the season demands it.
💡
Innovation
If it hasn't been done before, we draw it, CAD it, and build it with confidence.
🤝
Community
Our build space is open to everyone, our outreach is year-round, and we celebrate every local team.
📈
Progress
Small improvements matter. We track them, share them, and high-five them like the victory they are.
🎨
Creativity
We choose ideas that feel unexpected, useful, and a little bit soft — because the best robots are memorable.

our sponsors

Team PLUSH is a student-founded FRC team in Ottawa on a mission to make hands-on STEM reachable for students who would otherwise never get the chance. Your sponsorship builds a pipeline of young engineers, puts your brand in front of thousands at the Ontario Provincial Championship, and powers the classroom workshops, community demos, and Makers Making Change projects we run all season.

Every tier puts your logo on our website, robot, competition banner, and team merch — and every dollar goes straight into the parts, tools, and students building with them. If you believe in bold, community-first STEM, we would love to talk.
